Merlyn Moon

Jumper-Merlyn Moon, a Perth based filmmaker whose aesthetic is driven by contemporary surrealism and super realism. His vision of reality compresses imagery and symbolism, background and subject into an equitable division of the frame.

Photographer-Steve Tapping, a UK based photographer. His images depict an eerie solace of modern society with alienated subject matter. Whose engrossing backdrops and benevolent angles assault the mirage between composition and shadow.

Location-South Freo Power Station

The Jump.

I was at an exhibition a few years ago. Looking at this very image. Well not quite, I was looking at a group of people looking at this image, listening to them discuss the photo. That is fucking Photoshopped. Nah, I heard a guy actually did that. Yeah I did too, died apparently. Bullshit, look at the shadows, fake. Its real, I used to go to uni with him. He’s dead now. It was very entertaining.

But it makes sense. Why would anyone do that? It is ridiculous. Logistically anyway. Twelve hundred boxes were carted in by hand. No permissions were obtained. And it took five hours to construct. Then you go to the top and jump. Which is a weird feeling. I forgot to hesitate. That also helps. There were nine seconds of nothing after I land. One second for every ten feet. Don’t remember a thing. That is a weird feeling. The entire event is weird. So I immediately detach. I look at it subjectively now. You begin to understand people questioning the authenticity. You make no sense in their reality. But the strangest thing about jumping off that building was standing behind them, listening to their realities trying to make sense of mine.
